The Mayoralty Election.
We learn that a minalier of those who signed a requisition to Mr West to stand for liayor, are now ekceedingly vexed .with-theipselves for, baving been foolish t dadngh/to liave^done" so, Several affirm thai they only signed "to take a rise out of Mr West," as he is the last man m 'the place they, should like to see m the ' p'oibitioW 'of 'Ma^or: Others again say j they signed m: order to avoid " eciving pffeno,e^'j but this is surely a poorer bx- : cuse^tlian any. The great bulk '6f the ratepayers .appear to think that itbv any unfortunate chance Mr West should he returned, we might bid good-bye to the Borough Loan, to progress, and to unanimity, among the . Council lofs.. We ;are certain that a number of those who were recently telected would r resign, were Mr West elected mayor, for which position, -sfof^many reasons/ J&e is most unfitted, est'irnable his privale icharacter and social relationships. Those who are brirfgin"g J liim fofwaf & are not his true friends, nor are they acting m a manner to advance the best interests of the community.
