„ A Cure Tor Drunkenness. ;■.: The physicians and temperance; men .'; of Chicago are very much excited dyer a new remedy .discovered by a ; Dr v D'Unjgerj which, it is asserted, not only . ; ' cures intemperance, but leaves the drunkard' with an unconquerable aversion to 1 spirituous liquors. The medicine is red Peruvian bark (Cinchona rubra), called ■by druggists "quill bark," because it . comes from twigs about the size of a quill. A pound .of this bark is reduced to a powder and soaked m a pint of "diluted alchol. It is strained and evap- .,.,;• orated down, to, half a pint. The drunk-, .ard is given a : teaspoonful every three \ hours, and his tongue is moistened beV r tween the doses during the first; and lecond days. The third day the dose is ' generally reduced to half-a-teaspoonful, ' ':■ then to a quarter- teaspoonf ul, and gradu- ; ally down to fifteen, ten; and five drops. ■'■• • The medicine is' continued for a period of from five to fifteen days; and m e,x-i ■ treme cases to thirty days, but seven i dayß is about the average.
