Flemington Racecourse 1,5 ., p.m. — The weather continues everything that could be desired, the afternoon being fine and warm. The Governor and suite are pre sent. There is an enormous attendance. KENSINGTON STAKES, 5 furlongs. Mr Watson's Maddelina 1 Mr Robertson's The Nun 2 Mr Robertson's Telephone ... ... 3 Won easily by two lengths. Six horses started. Time lmin 3|sec. Mr Loughlin's Sheet Anchor... ... 1 Mr Reid's Grace Darling * 2 Mr O'Brien's Trenton 3 The other starters were Acolyte, Bosworth, Arsenal, Blink Bonny, Britisher, Brown and Rose, Cerise and Blue, First Chester, Ceriolanus, Cyclops, Liverpool, Despot, Dimlop, Hilltop, Kit Nubbles! Nordenfeldt, Leshia, Lord Exeter, Lord Wilton, Metal, Minerva, Plausible, St. John, St. Lawrence, Prometheus, Stornawuy, Thunderbolt, Tom Brown, Wing, Velocipede, Yellow Hummer, and Warwick. The field got away to a splendid start, Liverpool, Brown and Rose, Arsenal, and St. John, being quickest on their legs. Passing the stand, Prometheus, First Chester, Thunderbolt, and Trenton maintained the front rank, Liverpool lying about seventh, and going very strongly. As the lot neared the bridge over the Saltwater River, at the back of the course, Liverpool went through his horses, and led wast the scraping shed, followed bj Nordenfeldt, Trenton, Grace Darling, and Sheet Anchor, m the order named, but as the field swept round the home turn into the straight Liverpool died away to nothing and Sheet Anchor took command of the running, Trenton coming very fast on the outside, and' lying third. A magnificent race ensued from the distance post home between Trenton, Nordenfeldt, Grace Darling, and Sheet Anchor, but the Just- named held his own gamely to the finish, distancing Grace Darling by half a length, the same interval separating the second and third horses, Trentqn coming very last at. the finish. Then followed Nordenfoldt, Liverpool, and Brown and Rose all m a bunch. The time, Sniin 29-lsec, was the fast on record for the Melbourne Cup by one and a quarter seconds.' ' The betting at the nost was as follows : — Nordenfeldt, 5 to 1 ; Trenton and Despot 8 to 1 ; Liverpool, 10 to 1 ;
