Fhom the Woodville Examiner we learn that Mr Carlu.k is going to work m earnest as County Representative, and is giving notice of the following resolutions for the first meeting : — •" 1. That it should be. part of the land and public works policy of the Colony -that no Crown lands-, should, m the future, be put m the market without adequate provision being made' for thoroughly opening up such Crown lands by good, per~ inanent, practical roads. 2. That m regard to, the settled districts,. some system of road and bridge construction should be initiated, binder which the construction of such roads as it is. judged necessary to undertake shouM be completed m the same season as that m which it is undertaken, both as regards bridging, formation, and metalling. 3. That such expenditure cannot be provided for out of rates, even when supplemented by annual subsidies. 4. That such provision can only be made by grants from the public fund, and by , the conferment on the local bodies of adequate borr rowing powers. 5. That m the opinion of this Council the construction, of roads and bridges out of the public funds and revenue is, m many instances^ as legitimate a charge on s|ich funds as the construction of railways."
