Newspapers keep talking oi diversified farming, stock-raising, &c, as the only remedy ; but how is a man with no money and one cow (mortgaged of course), going to keep himself and family by stock-raising ? Beef sells for five to seven cents per lb,and pork three to five cents, so it will take a good many cattle and hogs to get much money out of these prices'. Oats sell for 20 cents per bushel, barley for 45 to 50 cents, and it "only grows half act op. Added to these are the. dreaded cyclones and hailstorms, which are getting very common. Two hailstorms went through our : country last seaßon,but we fortunately escaped of *acrea ready -for were totally destroyed.
