The Pohangina Reefs.
Mr George, the prospector for the. Woodville Prospecting Association, has written from the "Roaring Meg" Campj Pohangina, to tb« Chairman of the Asf sociatibn, giving his opinion of the country. He does not think much of it[ having never found similar stone to be Kpld|bearing. The stone, howe^r} Moonf I taini a mineral which h« believeitb tbe silver, and may be associated with goldf. Mr George hits pegged oat a claim as ,near the prospecting claim- as J|ie ,cpu\d, but the country is pegged oirt m al} directions, some going m for " regular farms," of 320 acres; Mr, @eorge baf been unableto find pore quartz, nor oan he find traces of alluvial gold* though he does, not think that goes for noucb. He; injtends testing a little further., before he returns. — Examiner. ■■■■< '■■>■> ■•■•■ j We hear on reliable authority that good payable itbne has-been 'found on the claim of the Ashurst Company .~ Examiner. j From a letter received m town from Messrs Bain and Bassett^weT learn that they intend returning at once. Up tijl the date of their 'writing no gold* had been found by anyone on the ground, and though they had pegged off a claim m the interest of their company, it wais only done; as a matter of form. They may probably leave Mr Gorby on the ground, unless spine chance presents itself of getiug their equipments away at oncer As to the first company, we learn that the shareholders interested In it intend to give the. thing', 'a further trial. They are not satisfied thai; -the cable was correct,; and believe that the 'latter due on Saturday week will give la different result. It has beeti surmised by them, and apparently not without reason, that th« atone has only been -' tested on the' wafer and syji-' tern, whereas all the previous tests Here have been by ■fire.' This they consider would account for the absence of silver,, and the poor result's ' <ftj/gold obtained, as the stone is bo impregnated with sulphur'and the gold isso fine that I ■'' thabrdiriary teet cannot be applied with satisfaction, /The whole mystery of the ■ thing is likely tobecjleared up on Saturday^ when it will be definitely^jk'nown . how the Bewt. turned out.-— Herald. \ j
