A night telegraph messenger, named Thomas M.lner'ney, met with an extraordinary escape'f rbm death m Sydney . lately. In turning, the flange of his bi-cycle-caught m the metals, and he was thrown headlong on to the,., tram-line. The inq'tor being scarcely ten feet away," dashed up and sent the machine several; jards, and M'lnerney fell with his head' and neck across the' rails, but had. the presence of mind to wriggle backwards. Had he remained, two. seconds longer on the rails, decapitation and death must have followed, as it. was impossible for the driver of the tram to stop. A gentlemen m Wellington telegraphed on Saturday to one of the ditec-' t*»rß of the New Zealand Stud Co. asking that one of Musket's hoofs might be sent to him as a souvenir of the famous horse. He received a reply yesterday to the effect that it was the intention of the company to have the skin of the animal which has rendered them' such a jrvice preserved and stuffed, and that "t leretore the request could not be coua- - piled .with.' A telegram from Wilcannia (S.A.) states that an encounter has taken place at the Caiwarra Station- betwe«n the police and a man named Graham. Constable Bolster of Milparinka, accompanied by Messrs E. V. Granger, J . P. Morden, and a black tracker, discovered Graham (who wanted for some swindling transaction,) hidden on the station. He refused to surrender, and ran away, followed by the constable on horseback. Graham attempted three times to shoot tho constable, but the cap snapped. The constable thereupon shot Graham dead. An inquest was held, at which; a verdict of " Justifiable homicide" was returned. The Jane Douglas will leave Wellington for Fbxtbn at 10 o'clock 1 to-hignt.
