(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPHS—COPYRIGHT.) ' (RBUTER'S TELEGRAMS.) . , i ;' Melbourne. Wednesday. The following are the latest Derby quotations : — Nordenfeldt, 5 to 2; laonotay, sto 1 ; Thunderbolt, 7to 1. PROPOSED SCRATCHING OF i NORDENFELDT. ; (Per 8. s. Rangarooma at the Bluff.) Bluff, Wednesday. Telegrams from Melbourne, dated October 14, are to the effect that the Hon J. White, owner of the racehorses Nordenfeldt, Uralia, and Monte Chnsto, which are engaged m the Victoria Darby, has Stated that if h* thinks either Uralia or Monte Christo can win the blue ribbon, he will scratch the sop; of Musket. The alleged reason for this is that Nordenfeldt is an Auckland bre d horse, while the other two were bred by Mr White himself. He therefore would prefer to appropriate the Derby with the other two. He further attaes that he has not backed Nordenfeldt for the Derby, although the horse is now first favorite. Naturally great dissatisfaction is felt by thase who have backed Nordenfeldt, but despite Mr White's statement, the horse is still supported m ! many quarters, and any offer to lay 4 to 1 1 against him would be instantly accepted. Certain persons believe Nor- | d«nfeldt to be a much batter horse than J I either of his stable companions, and if | so the owner will start him. . JSoidenfeldt is doing very good work, and is m firet-class condition, which latter remark applies to Trenton, Liverpool, Thunder- 1 bolt, and Winchester. The New Zealand horses are engaging great attention, and it is considered that they have I excellent claims for the Derby and Cup. j Thuuderbolt and Winchester are both well backed tor the former at 8 to 1 and 10 to 1 respectively, whilst 14 to 1 is the best price obtainable against each of Nordenfeldt, Liverpool, and Trenton for the Cud.
