The Manawatu Football Visit.
(To the Editor of Evening Poß<.) Sib,— With reference to the para- . graph appearing m your paper ;6f ,; the •<, 2nd instant regarding onr visit, to, yonr: city, you have evidently made some mistake, as the "■ bungling " was entirely j the fault of the Wellington club's. A* member of onr team (M r Luxf ord j, 'dur ' ing a visit to Wellington some time : early m August, interviewed .the,. secre-" taries of your various; clnbs i, arid, gpt;. promises p€ matches from two of them— namely, Wellington and Athletics, say- • ing that if we came down on the >19th September they could arrange matches for the ensuing week. On Mr'Luifbrd's return I immediately wrote to the secretary of the Wellington Clnb, saying w« > . should be down on the 19th, and asked him to see the secretary of' the ! Athe.- ; Jetics to fix the dates .of matches to suit' both teams. As I received no reply, I ■ concluded that he had done this ; but to Jp make sure, some two or 'three /iday's >bfc£' fore leaving I wired to both clnhs, and received answers— the Spying " they couldn't get' a team toge,tl)er to^ meet us,'' and the" Wellingtons .""that* there was pome mistake,, as' th«y -Haii arranged no match with 1 £Thiß,./c[f course, determined us to forego sour visit, btit receiving a further telegram from the Rugby Union, saying thijr. cb'ujd give us a match if we~efrm^ ; bnHn f e Saturday, and also hearins: •'ttfatPtnW' Fonekes would play us, decided us 'after ' all that we would not give,up our. visit:? So we, came, and arrived 1 on 'trie i9tti as* arranged, and as should have been expected. ■;. It-is, therefore, plain that bungling^has occurred through Wellington, and that Manaw, atu has ; some right., to feel aggrieved at the unsatisfactory nature of their vißit.— l am &c. :. . B. W.Secker' ; .'l-'-i'i ■•-'•'• Manawatu Football Club. Pa Iraerston North, sth October.
