The Yaqtii Indians long since used tactics of war that were unknown to civilized troops. In a former uprising they weie attacked by General Pesquerias, who wa* much amused to see the savages use h'ankulv as a shield against the soldiers' bullets. Holding up a blanket at both ends, so that the edso jnsfc touched the ground, the Indian riflemen marched boldly towards him l»ehin I this apparently ftitnsy protection. Tho Mexican General was soon alarmed, however, to find that his ballots did not stop the strange advance, and the moying fort of blankets, soon became so close to him and poured m sucli a (load! v file that ho was fan to fly the 6eld m confusion and with great loss. The Yaquis had become acquainted with the simple fact that whi'e a bullet will pass through twenty wet blankets strained ov«>r a frame or laid against a thin surface, it will not penetrate a single one if moistened and hung up so as to swing clear of iho gronad.
