Lungworm m Young Sheep.
Mr J. C. Vallance has placed aour (Waiiwapa Standard) disposal two remedies for lungworm, whioli, we are sorry to say, is still of very frequent occui recce m the district. The first is a cnte successfully applied by Mr WK. Chambers, of Repongaire, Poverty Bay, and consists m disinfecting the young sheep by the fumes of ordiuary coal tar. They are put m a close aud covered pen, into which the fumes are con ducted l»y means of a pipe. The animals are left m for, say, 12 or 15 minutes ; but care must be taken that ' hoy „ do not get too much. They come, out qiii'e bl.iclc. A second dose should not be necessary, but, probably, might be tried without harm-in two or three weeks. Coal tar, two pints. An old stove pipe would do very well for conducting the fumes. The second ca*e is best adapted for a few isolated cases. An instrument, such as a syringe, is used. The end, or opening, is a long hollow needle, having a sharp projecting point, which is easily inserted into the throat between the tings, and below the thick part, and a composition squirted m. This soon brings on coughing, ant] the worms are evpelled. One application should be sufficient. Cost of instrument at home 225. Injection forlambgj 01: Tereb £ dr; A. Carbo), 5 drops; TV Opii £ dr. For calves, four times the above strength. See Veterinary Journal, 1885.
