The Secretary informs us., that whilst packing 9pwts of stone sent to Melbourne he promiscuously took about 7ffiiof-stone to take to Wanganui, which he handed over to' Mr Forbes, the js^elljßr, though it was despised and. pronounced to be very good road metal by those who saw it m Wanganui -yet whenrMft Forbes, tested some of it the following 1 astonishing results were obtaine-1:--No. 1, weigl> ing lib 6o» of stone yielded lgr less one-sixty-fomth, of pure, gdld;, average, lOoz ll'ilwts ' ; t6 ' the* "* tdnt'j ? -N*. 2 weigliing 1-ilbs of stone yielded 13grs, when- separated Burs .silver, anHj^grs of gold, average 40ozs ? to 'the? ifonT- No. 3 weighing 7iozs qf stone . yielded Bgrs of. silver and gold, about 74ozs to the ton o'n'an average.- We have beeß»showji e the 'respective' buttons obtainerfofuSm jbne^e tests which are m the possession of the Secretary. Another piece of quartz. taken to Wellington and crushed 'yielded at the rate of 2pzs Gdwts to the ton. Surely all these' indications aresugge'siive' Of much richer stone deeper 'down. ..>;''
