THE PURE-BRED CLYDESDALE HORSE Watchman, WATCHMAN, foaled Ist November, IS7B, and is now rising five years old ; sire fowler's Wallace, dam Masgie; is a rich brown, is 16 £ hands high, has a clean, flinty bone and nice hair, and is very active. His sire, the pure imported Clydesdale horse, Fowler's Wallace, bred by Mr Donald McKinley, Wouldham Hall, ■ near Gloucester, out of a pure Clydesdale mare, bred by Mr J. N. Flenriug, Canipbelton. Scotland ; her sire, the celebrated horse Lofty Wallace, gained several first prizes before leaving the Old Country. Maggie was bred by Mr Sutherland, Taieri; Otago, out of a Napoleon mare, by Sir William Wallace (imported). Sir William Wallace bred by William Anderson, Esq., Kirkmichael, Ayrshire, oat til: Brisk, by Garibaldi. Asa yeailiu_' took first prize at Maybole, Kirkmicli.v.'l, and Glasgow, and second at Ayr. As a two-year-old, second at Ayr and Glasgow, and also second at the Highland Society's Show held that year at Edinburgh ; and when only three days landed m Otago took second prize against horses of all ages at the Taieri, al- . though only 2* years old. Club Meeting, 1880 ; also Merlin, winner of the Spring Handicap at Wnnganui ; also Totara, winner of the' llangitikei Hunt CJub.Steeplechase.Waverley Haudicap Hurdle Raco, and Manawatu Handicap Hurdles at Pjihnerston Diomedeß himself is the, winner of the Wanganui Welter Weight-for-age Hurdle Kuce, beating Reform, New Year, Dhudeen, Parnoil, aud Christmas ; won the Turakina Handicap Hurdles, beating a large field ; and ran a good third for the Wauganui Grand National Steeplechase, carrying 12st 7lbs., giviug the winner, Btiahinc, Ist slt>s., mid the second horse, Dliudeen, 2st 51 bs., thereby showing that he is a weight carrier, and has exceptionally good staying power. , Dioinedes was awarded first prize at the Wanganui A. and P. Association's Show as a sire best calculated to improve the -breed of saddle horses. Diomedes is a rich bay with black points, standing 16| hands high, with immense bone and muscle, good action, is 7 years old, and is considered to be one of the best cross-couutry horses m New Zealand. . - ' .
