In Memoriam.
THE LATE COLONEL READER
The following paiticulars concGrninp; Col. Reader's life are forwarded by the Press Association : — Pie had been many years m the Army, and had seen much service. He was first appointed from the Sandhurst Military College lo Her Majesty's 39th Regiment, hut soon exchanged into the 4th King's Light Dra^goons, serving with that regiment through the Punjaub campaign m 1848. Ha was present during the pursuit of the Sikh Army to its surrender at Rawnl Pintler, for which he received atwo with medal clasps. He continued with the Li<?ht Dragoons till 1855, during which time he held the adiutancy for five years. He then exchanged to the 12th Royal Lancers as captain, and proceeded to the Crimea, where he served, though not actiully under fire. Colonel Reader's services terminated m 1860. When the 12th Lancers were ordered Home iie accompanied them. He sold out m 1862, with a view of proceeding to New Zealand.' He arrived m the colony m 1863, and m 1879' he was .appointed U nder-Secretary for Defence. Col. Reader was m his 60th year, and leaves a wife and three children. Deceased will receive a iniliary funeral on Thursday.
