Alice Williams Gallane, barmaid at the Royal. Hotel, who had been; subpoenaed was not present, and a' warrant was issued for her arrest. W. B. Waters, merchant, . deposed', knew man named W. PI. McLelland ; first he heard of the assault on Muir was by seeing it m the papers; before the assault on Muir witnesshad nob hadany conversation with the accused about.it, but had since it happened ; could not say whether or. -not- be had on the 20th of August spoken to tbe accused and McLelland togetheiy.and also that he had seen Mr Buckley. Witness took an interest m the trial because some of his friends had been dragged into it. William Henry McLelland deposed, he had known accused since he^ was a lad, hut had not had any conversation with him on the subject before the Coiirt until this morning.
