Unqualified Doctors.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, Thursday. Charles Grimes, who was charged with illegally practising as a medical man, appeared at the Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon and pleaded ' not guilt}', as he was a member of the | Royal College of Surgeons, having passed the examinations, and having paid all fees thereon m 1872. All he had to do was to pass an examination for medicine before a board quite distinct from the Royal College of Surgeons, and he could obtain bis diploma. He had practised m Christchurch as a surgeon, and had a very good practice there, and, iv fact, had beeu employed by the police. Mr Wat dell remarked that virtually defendant bad no diploma, andj therefore; he was illegally practising as a surgeon. Defendant staled that the Royal College of Surgeons had forwarded the certificate to the University of Sydney, aud all. he could say was that he was on the rolls of the Royal College of Surgeons, and he could write to Sydney asking that the document from the English College of Surgeons should be forwarded here. The Bench imposed a fine of £5 and £3 10s costs, to bo recoverable' by distress. The defendant said he should appeal.
