The Manawatu Herald tells a story of a Fqxton man who, becoming economical, stopped his paper. A short time afterwards he had some sheep for sale and accepted a figure which was far below the ruling rate. He ni*t the local auctioneer, who expressed himself greatly surprised at the price the settler had taken for. his sheep. " Why " said he, " did j oil not send them to our sale last Friday, when I am sure you would have received a far better price than that." "Ah *' replied the other m a saddened tone, " I did not see the paper." " Well then," replied the .auctioneer, "on this transaction alone you have lost more than would have paid for half a doisen years' subscription to your paper 1" These are facts, and is it not always thecase ? The man who from motives of false economy docs not support the lo^al journal, generally pays for it m the long run. Clearly, the above hits the nail on the head.
