Attcr Mr Ferguson, tho Secretary, had read the proposed new hya law, Captain Williams said ho thought they lived m a fr«o country. Mr Nathan ; So we do. Captain Williaics : Well it does not look like it. Tho idea «>t the Board trying to stop a niMU from singing a hymn on the wharf. It in?a»s it a man sins»B a hymn you'll psit a hot potato m his .mouth ; its ridiculous. There are too many arbitrary rules altogether ; I shall object to it. Captain Rose pointed out that there was plenty of room on the reclaimed land on which to sing hymns. Mr fiteaton thought it would be a good idea to have a gate at ihe end of tho wharf. Captain Williams said the wharf waß just as public a place as one of the streets, and you could not shut up a man|s' mouth for singing there. The Chairman pointed out that bands of music playing on the wharf was dangerous to horses, am] thought the by-law should be adopted. Captain Williams : And I hope it won't. The motion was then put and carried, the only dissontieut b«iug Captain Williams.
