London, Sept. 20. t Advices from Sicily state that cholera, is increasing, to an alarming extent m Palermo. , Owing to the action of the Egyptian Sanitary Board imposing quarantine on vessels arriving from, the East, Lord John Manners, British Postmaster General, has consented to a diversion of the Brindisi mail to the Suez Canal route outwards and homewards. The Peninsula and Oriental Steam Navigation Company have made arrangements whereby their vessels will avoid touching .Egyptian ports, and mails and passengers via Brindisi will pass through the Canal instead of via Alexandria, thus avoiding detention and annoyance attendant up on quarantine. Capetown, Sept. 19The Shipping Company's E.M.S. Aorangi, left last night for New Zealand. Paris, Sept. 20. Advices from Admiral Miot, commanding French forces at Malagasy waters, state that troops under his command recently made reconnaissance of the Havas position at- Tarafal, Madagascar, but were attached bytbe enemy and repulsed! with considerable loss.
