J. umith a deputation to wait hpon the Ladies' Cotriuitte* of the Female' Prison Gate Brigade Home with a view to a conference as to how the institution could be better worked or benefited by the co-operation of the elerg). An interview took place this week, but nothing was definitely arranged, the meeting biting adjourned. We underutand that the majority of the ladies on the committee are favourable to the Home being handed over to the Salvation Army. Mrs C. J. Hutchinson has resigned her position as matron, temporally, m order to get the needed rest which her health demands, although her aid iv outdoor work may still bo counted on. The constant physical and mental strain caused by being roused out of bed at all hours throughout the night, m order to admit waits and stray*, and the surveillance riepessary to be maintained over women, suffering m some cases from delirium tremens, haß over-taxed her powers of endurance. No successor has yet' beeii 'appointed, and Mrs Hutchison is still fulfilling the duty./ It is rumoured th?.t wlicih :r the institution is, or is uot, handed over to the Salvation Army, that organisation intund to com tnence the work of rescuing fallen . women on its own account.
