How a Rich Man can Defy the Law.

(To the E litor Eoening Post) Sin, — Many months ago Mr C. J. ' Pharazyn, then an honorable member of the Legislative Council, was fined £100 for voting when disqualified. Has the fine ever baen paid ? Mr Pharazyn said ha would appeal, but n> appeal has ever been prosecuted. Is he to be allowed even m the last act to sots the law at defiance, and to escape paymant of a fine inflicted for wilful disregard of the law. If a poor man was fined he would have to pay or go to gaol. Is there one law for the rich and another for the poor m this country ? — I am, &c. E'jual Justice. [We have made- enquiries and find that the fine has not been paid nor have any steps been taken to enforce it. — Ed. E.P.]
