The New Zealand Government, replying to Mr Service's telegram abont the missing ship North American, states that the schooner Kekeno, now on a visit to the Auckland Islands, is daily expected to return. They will wire on her arrival, and if she bring* no news, the lighthouse steamer Stella, can, if necessary, be directed to visit these Islands: Sir John Coode, the eminent engineer, arrived m Melbourne yesterday, and was met by the officers of the Harbor Trust. The matters to be submitted to Sir John Coode by the Harbor Trust will be taken m hand immediately. A room will be specially set apart for his use at the offices of the Trust to facilitate the work. The principal work is a proposed modification of the dock scheme originally drawn up by Sir John Coode ; also as to forming a dock m West Melbourne Swamp. Mr Joseph Svmes, freethonght lee tnrer. persisted m charging for admiss:on to his Sunday evening entertain- ' merits after being cautioner! by the police, 'and, consequently, criminal proceedings 'will be takenagainst him.
