The match took place at Feilding on Satnrding a d being the last of the cup matches excited a jgood deal of interest there being about 200 spectators, iriclud ing a good unany ladies, upon the ground. "Tb/J game was, played m, two spells of 45 minutes" each and commenced at 10 pist3. Feilding kicking off the ball was soon m toucji.in the Palmerston 25j a.nd;pn being r thrown out was .badly b!ahdied : by the Palmerston men thus enabling Smith to drop a goal from the field, scoring- 4 -points; for Feilding within 3 minutes from the, start of the game. The remainder of the. spell was _. not; marked .by any further score although Templar afid Stallard made repeated efforts. to get through "but were every time stopped by..Thompson.(playing.fullback); whose collaring was, no dotibt the means of saving/ his team from a severe defeat. . The second; spell was commenced by Stallard kicking off for Palmerston, he followed up his kick and secured the ball and made a grand run getting through' all the men but Thomson who brought him to grass, and relieved bis goal. Thomson shortly afterwards made a couple of good runs, on the second oeoasion being splendidly stopped by Luxford almost on the Palmerston gaol line. Templar then made his effort and starting from his own 25 ran across on the left wing clean through the Peilding men and secured first try for Palmerston from which Jackson kicked a good goal, making the scores, Palmerston 6 points, Feilding 4. A. good deal of loose scrimmaging then took place and Halcombe made a good run being eventually stopped by Templar close on the Palmerston line. Say well then had a show and getting well away was never caught although Thomson tried hard ; from , this try no goal resulted. "s*o other score took place, although Salmon and Jackson made some good runs. Time was' called leaving Palmerston victorious by 8 points to 4. Palmerston thus wins the cup.

The former won by two gaols, kicked from the field (8 points), to one goal from a try (9 points). In the Merivales (Chri«t---oWoh) y, Poneke (Wellington), the Poneke \yah by two tries to nil.
