IN FURTHER EXPLANATION.
(TO THE EDITOR OK THE STANDARD.) Sir, — After having finished the postcript to my letter of explanation yesterday, and before leaving Palmerston, certain facts came to my knowledge which I think the public ought to know. I have mentioned previously that I made the same offer to the defendant on the rising of the Court as before the case came on, viz., £10, (bare expenses for Court, lawyer, and myself). I then went m to the solicitor's room to complete my letter of explanation. Shortly afterwards (about 10 minutes), the warrant of commitment for the debt to Me? Dowell was presented to me. I was much surprised at the time, but I had no certain idea, till I found Mr McDowall, who informed me that he was astonished to hear of the warrant being out, that he had given no instructions to act like thus. I wonder who was going to stand the trip to Wanganui, if I had accepted the alternative, which I was inclined to do. Problem : How many friends would some people have, if they had not a sixpence m their pocket ? Echo answers. H. Graff. [We have excised certain portions of the above letter, which we not deem it advisable to publish. — Ed. M.S.]
