Manawatu Standard. (PUBLISHED DAILY.) The Oldest Daily Newspaper on the West Coast. SATURDAY, SEPT. 5, 1885. THE INDIGNATION MEETING.

The resolutions passed at last night's meeting are all moderate, practical, and to the point. We fear the session has advanced too far, and there is too much dissension m the House, to allow of the Act being repealed or modified m the desired direction, until next session. No doubt other places, Wanganui for instance, will also bring pressure to bear with a similar object m view. On the other hand, the Legislature m its wisdom may prefer to leave the Attin its present form, m which case Crs must be careful what they do, and not defiantly break the Act, as it will now be seen that such cannot be done with impunity, or at any rate with safety. The resolutions are such as will generally prove acceptable to the public, and we sincerely trust that m course of time they will be carried into effect, when Crs will have greater freedom ! and security m their official position.
