HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
Wellington, Tuesday. The House resumed at 7.30 p.m. THIRD READING. The Rating Act Amendment Bill (No. 2) and the Land Transfer Bill were, after being slightly amended, read a third time, and passed. The House rose at 1 a.m. Wednesday. The House met at 2.30 p.m. IN COMMITTEE. The House went into Committee on the Counties Act Amendment Bill. A lengthy discussion ensued on clause 2, providing that new counties are to be created by special act. Clause 2 was put and carried by 43 to 22. The House rose at 5.30 p.m. The House met at 7.20 p,m. In Committee on the Counties Act Amendment Bill on clause 5 being reached, providing thai the operation of the act is not to be suspended m future, Mr Hurst moved that the chairman' leave the chair. After some discussion the motion was negatived on the voices. . This clause was carried by 36 to 32. Mr Macartbur moved that the portion of the clause be struck out which provided that the council may petition for a reversion of the act. : The amendment was lost on the voices. Thursday. The Counties Bill, clause 35, limitation of bank overdraft, this was struck out on the voices. Progress was then reported, and leave obtained to sit again. The Property Assessment Act Amendment Bill, was committed. Clauses 13, and 18, relative to property subject to and exempt from taxation, were postponed, at the suggestion of Major Atkinson. Other important clauses were postponed, m accordance with the suggestion of Major Atkinson, who suggested that the most important clauses should be held over. Progress was reported on the bill. The Auokland Railways Land Comsation Bill, was read a third time and passed. The House rose at 12.50.
