AUSTRALIAN NEWS.
(by electric telegraph.— copyright.) (reuter's telegrams.) Melbourne, Wednesday. Correspondence, extending over a period of ten months, between the Hon. W. Sargood and Colonel Disney, Commandant of the Victorian Forces, was laid upon the table of the Legislative Assembly last night. Letters give evidence of a complete want of harmony which has existed for some- time between them. Mr Sargood objected to Mr Disney making reports to the Governor, Sir Henry Loch, as Commander-in -Chief, j and afterwards insisted on all communications from Colonel Disney being addressed to the Secretary of Defence Department instead of to himself. Sargood further states that he considers Colonel I Disney and other Imperial officers, serving m Victoria, as akin to members' civil service. The A?-gus commenting on the correspondence, characterises Sargood'slletters as intolerably offensive, arrogant, and supercilious, and considers that he exhibits clumsy, and insolent sar- | castn. Adelaide, Wednesday. Arrived, this morning — Orient Company's R.M.S. Sorata, from London.
