The coast was rocky, with a heavy sea breaking, and the- boat was smashed. All the occupants got ashore except a lad named Sutton, who was drowned. . At the Supreme Court on Thursday, Mary Tucker, who was arrested at Wellington, was acquitted of the charge of: stealing £125 and sundry articles of clothing belonging to her husband. The case was noteworthy as being the first of the kind under the Married Women's Property Act. Counsel for the defendants m "Waterston v. Lew River Harbor Board, claim of £1500 for damages to a- vessel through defective berthage at Invercargill jetty, applied to have several points of law argued before the case went to the jury. Bluff, Saturday. ,On the return of the Harbor Board's tug Awaroa from Stewart Island on Tuesday evening Captain Tyson reported -that a boat accident occurred on Monday m Paterson's Inlet, off Native Island. It is feared that three men. named William Chatland, Williana Fortune, and John Brown were drowned. The boat left Kapitiki about 11 a.m. to go to Ringaringa to attend a Native funeral, and was last seen under sail off the east end of Native Island, with a squall coming on. A rudder was found next morning on Buller's Point. The boat, which was a large one, formerly belonged to the steamer Tararua, being the one the mate landed m. Captain Tyson took a search party of five and steamed round several islands, but found no trace of the missing men. JXo further tidings have been received. , -
