Mr Shailer, Photographer, has adopted the use of electricity in connection with his business, and he finds the saving ot labor and time to be really astonishing. The battery is principally used for the work o- ro touching negatives. The wire being attached to the re-tpuching pencil held in the hands of the artist keeps the pencil in a continued rapid movement so that it has merely to be moved quietly over the surface of the negative instead of the olil style of marking out separately and slowly every little blemish appearing on the glass. The time alone saved by this method in an ordinary carte de visite is about an hour and three quarters. Messrs Jones and Haythorn are calling tenders for falling 100 acre's of bush in Taonui. Tenders close on the 31st instant. Particulars will he found in advertisement. A meeting of the Palmerston Boating Club will be held shortly to make arrangements for the coming season. We have no doubt this recreation will become very popular during the Spring and Summer months. -: We are informed there is yet another hotel to be erected in the Square. Advance Palmerston ! We understand that the reason now advanced *by the Government for not advancing the Palmerston Borough Loan is that the rules of the insurance Apsocia ion will not allow loans to bo advanced to corporate bodies without payment of interest is guaranteed entirely by a special rate without assistance .from the general revenue. As nothing official .on the sub•ject resulting from the Mayor's late visit to Wellington, has yet been, before the Council, we refrain fro m making any comment on the matter. .
