Remedy for Croup or Diphtheria.
A very simple remedy m clamed to have been discoved by the French faculty, for croup and other diptheritic complaints. It consists m lighting, at the foot of the bed occupied by the child who has been seized with the malady, a morsel of tar steeped man earthen vessel isolated from the floow By keeping the room well closed, it is presently filled with a vapour, which the little patient generally inhales with pleasure. Very noon after the fuin.es have entered the respiratory organs of the child, the false membranes, detach themselves and are readily espectoratful, and the feeling of suffocation ia exchanged for a Bense of reilef. ]f new membranes pi'esent themselves the process has to be repeated, and it is recomtnened that the throat should be afterwards moistened with a sponge dipped m water tinotmed with the chlorate of potass. The remedy lias been tried m several of the hospitals of Paris with a generally favourable result
