Waste Land Board.

The usual fortnightly meeting-of the Waste Lands Board was held on Thursday morning -at the Provincial Buildings, Wellington: Present— Messrs J. W. Ai Marchant (m the chair)j: -Mason,-. "EL Bunny, W. Beetham, ; M.H*R.. - It was decided to allow the selector of deferred : payment section 1, block 11, Mangaone, to transfer his > section:* to ; another person. . 'A letter .. was. read from the Crown Lands Ranger, receoimnending that the Pahiatua Road Board, m terms of their letter of the 22nd July, be allowed to cut timber on the Pahiatua Township Reserve for the construction of two bridges over the Mangaramarama Creek. It was agreed to subject the matter to tho con* trol of the Crown Lands Ranger. The schedule of lands sold since the last meeting was read; It showed that 441 acres had been applied for at an Upset price of £579 0s 3d, the payments on account amounting to £16148 sd. A letter /was read from WE. Morewood, Woodville, m which the "writer complained that he had been kept out of the list of the Mongatainoko : Special Settlement Association. He also complained of the manner m which, the Association is being formed.'. On the suggestion of Mr McCardle, the matter was ' referred to the Minister of Lands. The Crown . Lands Hanger reported that he, had inspected the improvements, made on section 41, block 8, Mangaone, and section G; block' l2, Mangahao. The improvements on section 41 amounted to 7 acres felled and partly m grasjs, valued at about 108 ; and those on section 6 consisted of 9 acres burnt and grassed, and a cleared line cut on the boundaries or the section, at a value of £38. It was decided to offer these sections for Rale at auction on the first convenient opportunity, weighted with the amounts of the value of the improvements. , ..... . ...■ v - Mr Beetham moved, (1) v . That, sub- 1 ject to certain . restrictions to provide of for satisfactory settlement, this Board approve of an endownment being granted to the Wellington Harbor Board." .(2) " That, m the opinion of this Bbardj all endowments and reserves of whatever character shall be dealt with.under the Land Regulations of the district where such endowments are situated, and that no endowments shall be made without * first being submitted to the consider* • - tion of the various Waste Lands Boarda." The mover said the Board -was doubtless 1 • aware that other Harbor. Boards, m, .the Colony had received large endowments, and thought WeUington should be treated m the sßme way. Settlers would be very short-sighted if they did not : agree with the motion. He did not think the Board would be exceeding its duty if it expressed an opinion that the Welliheion Harbor Board should receive an endowment which would enable it to construct a graving dock. s Mr Mason seconded the motion. 1 Mr Bunny moved, and Mr McCardle seconded, that consideration of the matter be postponed until next meeting. This was lost, and the original motions were then put and cai'ried. The proceeding then terminated.
