Messrs Littlejohn and Son's Regulator Clock.
Tina clock, which is of substantial and plain but rich and handsome- appearance, is eminently suitable for an observatory or for the hall of a gentleman's residence. In general appearance^ it** assimilates closely to the old GrandfalheWclpc|&pf a bygone day. Those, r.egulatpr clocfc§|we are glad to see, stiirhold their lown ag&nsfc the cheaper and meretricious; Frenchiiind American- styles wherever accurate timekeeping ia a consideration. The dead beat escapement when properly made and combined with a scientificallyCconstruuted compensated pendulum of sufficient weight and length, and protected from dust by a carefully fitted case, has never excelled, or even equalled by any of its numerous competitors either for)ac curacy of time-keeping or durability. The case is also worthy of notice, i ;and was made by Mr Horton. To those in- i terested in such we would strongly recommend a careful study of the turret tfock which was also constructed by the same firm. The works are entirely open, and consequently can be readily 'inspected and the whole action understood. The clock is a facsimile ofthafcconßiructed for Port Chalmers, and has in noj. way been " got up " for Exhibition purposes, and the same may be said of the Eejjjfulator. Indeed it was only by very.,h'aXty wo t rkmanship that theyi could-,; be cp'm-' pitted in time for the opening'day. Notwithstanding this, however,- both shirw clear evidence of very careful and delicate workmanship. The large clock shows the timo upon an exterior dial of five feet, and an interior one of tour feet. The movement, however, is sufficiently powerful for dials up to eight feot. After to-day, the clock will strike the hours upon the four cwt. bell shown by the "Lion Foundry." It has been found necessary, however, to muffle the hammer, and to use a very light one in addiiion, hence the full tone of the bell, which is too powerful for the building, will not be brought out. Messrs Littlejolin r.nd Son, will also in a{ day or two add to
iheir exhibit, two watch movements. One a lever the other a chronometer. Tiieso, like the Jocks, are both entirely local manufacture, an;l are of most delicate, j r et durable, construction, and accurate performance. — Evening Press.
