In the House this afternoon Mr Macandrew crave notice to move on going; ibtp Committee of Supply, "That a Royal Commission be appointed during the recess to consider and report as to how far it may be practical to place the affairs of the North and Middle Island respectively under, two or more Provih-cial-Legislatures 'without impairing the unity of the ■colony, and that it be an instruction to the said Cpmmission, in the event of ifci? , recommending; any change of the existing, system, to em body such recommendation in a bill, to be Submitted to Parliament at its next annual session, . or to a ' special session, to/be convened at an earl : er date for the consideration of that report exclusively, should his Excellency the Governor see 'fit."' - "' ' ,■■: " ■ ■ ' -. ■ Mr Macandrew hag given notice of the fpUpwing motion in. the House of Repre/sentatives :— " In the opinion of this House it is expedient that 'The Government Insurance A«t, 1884," be repealed, inasmuch as one of the chief objects of • the Legislature in passing the said act, viz., the popularising of the institution and the extension of the benefits thereof throughout the colony by means of in-, flueritial local boards at the chief centres of population, has not been realised, and inasmuch as the interests of the policyholders are being, and are likely to be still further prejudiced by extravagant and unnecessary expenditure on the part of the board at -Wellington, which ia> practically irresponsible, and over which the poiicyholders, as a whole, have little •rnocontrpL"
