The Money Market.
.Messrs Charles Powhall and; Co.; 'morif. gage agents, Wellington, report r-^ThK transactions ot the last month have been limited loyally to a few operations rarig-^ ing from to £10,000, anS whic^' (the securities offered being sufficient)" were" readily negotiated at from.fttoT*/ per cent., these rates being, the currenk value of money. The. amount of capital :. offering continues sufficient to meet pre^ sent demand, but the usual outside sup. ply is 'decidedly more contracted, and we do not look, therefore, for any further reduction upon present quotations.- Proposals for direct mortgage loans from several of our large landed proprietors have not been forwarded to the Mother Country; some of them running into" extensive figures. Placed m the hands of highly influential parties, we have little doubt satisfactory results will be obtained. So great is the .amount of uh- * employed capital m England^ that money x is now offering- on mortgage at 2£ per cant., and as we are able to . submit tha highest class of securities obtainable, and. offer muc]i better terms, , the opportunity; is not likely to be overlooked, andwill^ / no doubt, lead to further very large 5 ap- j plications. ; .; :- ; 5 T'
