Young Mens' Mutual Improvement Society.
Last evening the Mutual Imprtjvei(ment Society held their usual weekly meeting m the Weslevan .Hall,; the Bey. R. S. Biinn, President bcciipying, th& chair<. After the reMing df tpe'jninute* and. other preliminary business, the President referred to .the last open debate, and summed up the arguments employed by ttie speakers. Mr W. Stubbs then moved that the name of the Society he' altered^ from •• Young Men's . Mutual Improve*, ment r : Society " to •' The ' Palmerston Mutual Improvement VSpciejty)?'^^"SUh^ motion was seconded by?Mr Dfllonj and sifter discussion carried. By the same gentleman a motion was then proposed, " that ladies be admitted .to the Society as nondrary meinberg." This yraa also> carried after discussion.' Mr J. Dillon read an original poetical composition entitled "The Mountain Grave," atale of; the early days of the Colony, ; which wasi much appreciated by the members and commented on m eulogistic terms by the mover and seconder of the votepfthankg that followed. The remaining business consisted of i " Sharp" Practices," and a very interesting discussion took place on the subjects proposed,' taken part m by ; nearly'all the members present.^, The busmess was announced for next Mon T r day, on which day Mr ; Stubbs /will read , to the Society an. essay on " India."
