Captain Forbes, of the latter • vessel, stated that' the' : weather, looking too threatening, he ran back to port, intending to waifc.a more favorable opportunity. When' abreast of Point Halswell, anrl going at the rate of three or four knots an hour, he saw a steamer's light ahead. , First he saw her port light and then her starboard and masthead lights.
