The House met at 2.30 p.m. THIRD READING. The Mines Act Amendment Bill, the Deceased Persons Estate Bill, and Stamp Act Amendment Bill were read a third time and; passed. "- • {'!■'■ . /, Saturday. ' PROGRESS OiT BILLS. The debate pii the "State Forests Bill was resumed. Mr Barron moved to strike out the latter part of clause 7 and the whole of clause 8 (latter clause containing the i>orrowing powers). . The Treasur promised to alter £50,000 \ to m clause 8, and the araend- . ment of Mr Barton's was negatived by 24 to 29. On clause, B the Commissioner may borrow money for the State Forest purposes.. The Treasurer moved to strike off "£50,000, V and substitute "£10,000" and add words to the effect that such a, svun should be borrowed yearly as Parliament directed, • Major Atkinson said he should have vepy; much liked to see th« House pass one bill withaut bprrowinc r , however, the Corainittee, by a large majority had determined to borrow even for such a purpose as this,. and that being so it was best to go on until the last clause was passed, and then see whether the committee would have borrowing. Sir Julius Vpgel replied that if they did not borrow, money wauld have to be : charged to consolidated fund. The amendments proposed by Sir Julius Yogel werecarned. The Bill was reported on clause 26. The Tuakiatoto and Kaitangata Lakes Bill was agreed to m Committee, reported and read a third time passed. . The House rose, at 12.55 a.m.
