A horse with aii eventful history has been attracting much attention at the New Orleans ' xposition. It was the war horse of Stonewall Jackson, and was known by the nuiue of " JLiltle Shrrell-" ' The animal was cfiven by Mrs Jackson to the Virginia Military Inslitule. In the spring di* 1861, when Jackson had. taken: commahd at Harper's Ferry, a number of hors'os were captured on a train from the north on the Baltimore aud Ohio Kail toad Jackson requested his quarter-mastei 1 to select a hp/se for him from the lot, and uittle Sprrel was picked out. He soon displayed great powers of enduranc«>, and was used by Jackson iv all his active service. He rode Little Sorrel at the battles .of Ma nassa--, Kernstow n, McDowell, Winuhester, Port Eepublic, Cross Keys, Chickahominy, Cedar JV'lountain, Second Manassas, Shai'pburg, Harper's Ferry, Fredericksl>urg, and at Chancellorsville, where Jiaoksoh fell, mortally wounded, from Little Sorre.'s back. When Jackson fell, Little Sorrel galloped into the Federal ranks, and m a subsequent charge was csipfcured by General J, E. B. Stuavt. Says a "Wellington paper.- —Mr Russell, foreman to Mr Wiggins, the'saddler,, has a grisly relic m his j>osse.ssion which hass much grim inter &•"•. Mr Wiggins has the Government contmityfor^ militaiy- belting, io^aud rccenilya number of regulation belts w^ere sent down f oin the Government stores for alteration, Whilst examinihg one of hese, Mr, Russell discovered, sewed inside the ball pouch, a small .leather po.ich containing a Mdoiiscalp m perfect preservation. The scalp is small and the hair shorf, but the skin has been well cured, and the hair is still firmly fixed. There ia nothing m the belt to t-how to what regiment the owner belonged, but the .large. majority of the belts which pass thr ugh Mr Russell's har ds bare the stamp., of the 57th regiment. The .scalp Js, evidently the spoil of some koldiet m the Maori war, "ho meat to keep a relic of sfgna! rev« nge oh one of the enemy. Mr. !?us«cll J ntenflsto present it to the Museum, where it will doubtless be an o'lject of considerable int rest.
