POLITICAL NEWS.
(Correspondent of Napier Telegraph). During the past week there has been again and again the rumours of dissen- ; tions m the Cabinet until Saturday night, when rumour grew quite courageous and became more definite. It was stated that there was a growing.' ••coldness between the leading members of the Cabinet, and that, Messrs Stoutand Ballance were inclined to "ding " the whole thing if ; they could not get rid of SmJulius Yogel. , It was said that they, thought if this could be done they would secure the" support "of some members..of the party who have become alienated through dissatisfaction at Sir Julius Vogel'a financial policy, and that .they could form ■ a ; new *■ team strong enough to keep things going until the expiration - of the present Parliament, whilst m • th»- event of their failure r) they -belieVe ?Majpr>' Atkinson wonld nndat impcftsibleiio tioliioffiicfe for * fortnight. \ It is pointed rout that while Sir<Jnliua Vogei: has been singularly unsuccessful.in regard to all his proposals, and has been compelled to take back all the bills for which he was m a great measure the .responsible party, -Messrs Stout and Ballance. haye been comparatively sncceasf ul with their bills, the Counties Bill and Land Bill; It is thoughts that recognising this want of success Sire- J>Yogel would be glad fa throw up -the sponger especially if Ke rjgceivod the £6250 he is petitioning for, and it now seems to be the universal opinion that there will be a re-construction of the Cabinet, if notbingitnore alarming, before the dose of. the. session. This morning the possibilities of resignation of some members of this Cabinet are even seriously discussed. \[ '/ L ;' '■■''' A deputation of Canterbury members of the House of Biepresentatives and Canterbury Legislative Councillors with; the representative's: of the West- Coast this morning waited on Sir J. Yogel. What transpired cannot be. ascertained, as every -member ..present was pledged to secrecy. All refuse to give any informal 'tion on the subject.. Some outside members think Sir J. Yogel has sbnrided a rallying vote on the East and WestCoast members!" The ';result of this secret caucus is .that " tumour is holding high revel, arid already we are, told that there was abiff row- at the meeting. . This, however, is not m the least credited. "No member of the Cabinet,, except Sir J. ; Yogel was present.. The suggestions that Sir J. Yogel., conceived the idea of rallying the Canterbury and West Coaßi.| party by promiship 1 something, m connection with the East and West Coast railway is gaining ground. . I believe Trim "pretty safe m saving that the meeting between -Sir J. Yogel and the Canterbury and West Coast members this morning was inconsequence of the. receipt of a satisfactory telegram from London, regarding the loan for the East and : West Coasts Railway, and that the Canteiburv representatives interviewed the Government with the hope of obtaining a promise that the "colony should be made responsible for the interest on the loan. . .
