New Zealand Cheese.

A OLondon pager>says :— " We have r*.ceived some particulars respecting the cheese lately imported from New Zea-land-and we regret to find the report oo the condition of some of the consign- . ments. is not very favourable. That brought by the Aorangi the end of last March, was, however,: found to have beendelivered ia the best possible condition, through the perfect storage m the cold air chambers.. Ihe prime qualities have been sold at the same price as the best English cheddar, viz., 65s per cwt. but the consignment brought by the Biniutaka was found to be m a very different condition.. The report on this •consignment states that the cheeses bad- ? the appearance of being almost b,qilecfthrough;great heat, that the flavour was bad, and that the cloths were soaked with oil. Some of the cheeses wepe. jn, such a state they weie almost unsaleable., wlrle others are now selling at only 18s per cwt.; This consignment being: front the sam^ factory as that brought by the Aqrai^gi, and of the same quality, -Was sold to arrive at 65s per cwt: T;^s w^ll be a heavy loss to 'the consignees, fdt although the damage, as we understand, was caused through a badly constructed cool chamber made purposely for $je cheese— the. regular freezing chamberbeing too full of sheep to take the cheese —the shipping company is not responsible, having taken the consignment at shipper's risk. If better arrangements are not guaranteed m future, we fear the trade m New Zealand dairy produce will suffer considerably, as shippers are not likely to send J their produce without getting some understanding that then: goods will he properly stored."
