SUICIDE OF THE PURSER.
(UNITED PRESS isSOCIATION.) Wellington, Sunday. 'The R.M.S. Buapehu, Captain Greenstreet, from Plymouth, via'Terieriia^ and the Cape arriyed here to-day;' Sh« brings 32 saloon passengers, 36 second cabin, and 101 steerage ; also, 1014 tons of cargo for Dunedin, 501 tons for Lyttelton, and 1141 for together with 24,6 bags of mails. She experienced splendid weather throughout thei passage. The, captain has been' presented with a testimonial expressive of the thanks of the passengers for his courtesy and' attention. On the morning 1 of the 24th June, Henry J. Dent, a third-class purser, committed suicide by shooting himself m the head with a revolver. He had on the preyioas day shown signs of great excitement," and had threatened to shoot his niece, by whom he wag accompanied. He was searched, but no weapon was found. The captain remonstrated with him, and he replied that he < had taken a little too much drink, and thanked the captain for his warning:' A few hours afterwards he shot himself. Theßuapehu's total sUammg time was 40 days 15 hours.
