Mr George Simpson has started for Pertly to arrange with the Government of Western Australia for a land grant m aid of the. proposed railway between Bunburg and Beverly, on the Albany route. July 14. Lord Mayor Fowler has been created a baronet. The Times, m an article on the proposed New South Wales loan, considers it unwise to borrow at present, but is of opinion that the attempt made at bullying by financiers should be resisted. The leading dealers m stocks denounce the protest made by ths brokers. The annual cricket match, Eton v. Harrow, was won bythe latter by three wickets after an excitinc contest. July 14. Tenders for a loan of £300,000 at five par cent, for the Napier Harbour Board, the minimum of which has been fixed at I par, -were opened to-day, when the totul amount of tenders was found to be £1,3000,000. Tenders at 46104 Is 3d will receive 30 per cent, of their application, above that m full.
