We however would stronjily recommend those of ouv townsmen who are and very naturally so inclined to severely castigate the offender, to pause before taking any decided practical action. They, should carefully consider the steps to be taken and not by too extreme measures, run the risk bf legal complication. Such practical expression of public feeling as we heard suggested by numbers of our townsmen to-day would not, we consider, be calculated to improve matters at the presentjjcritical juncture, and we trust that any such efforts on the part of the public to vent their wrathful indignation no »matter how just their demands,-' be prevented from reaching a serious climax. The public may rest assured that retribution for a wrong committed willfully or carelessly it matters not which, against public community will come surely quickly enough and without their taking the law m their own hands. We are of opinion that the action which has caused this disaster may after all have been unconsciously performed, we cannot hejp thinking this, as the only solution of the truly strange affair, to which the following quotation may perhaps be applicable " Quos dens vutlt petderi prins dementat." :
