(From the New Zealand Mail, July 10.) " Augtfr *' thihks^hat Clarence.if ridden by Corrigan, will be hard to beat injthte -Open &teeplechßse at the:V.A.T.C. .Bracele.t meeting m August., \ V Xt is [probable that one handicapper -wiU Be . appointed' for the whole .of the ; colony^ The Referee says that Mr F. F. ■ • Dakin, of .Melbourne, haa offered-' his -Services as handicapper to the, Auckland i Racing Club, and the committee of that club have decided to. apply to the Christchurch and Dunedia Clubs to co-operate with it m securing his services. The Referee " feels assured that Mr Dakin would— if there is to be one handicapper for the "whole colony— be the right "man m the fight place, and that it only needs united action on the part of our leading racing institutions, for his services to be secured. Let them' look to it forthwith and notlosa a chance which may never occur again of securing ' as a New Zealand handicapper a gentleman of thorough probity and of practical 'racing experience.! 1 Mr Dakih is.undbubtedly a V gentleman of thoro^ghi' racingexperien ie," and I am quite ready to believe on such an authority as the Beferee that he is a most desirabls handi- ■-. capper.; Put to .flay that to. secure his services is to take a; chance which may .never occur again is* rather too much, when we have in -the colony such a comrpeten^,and impartial h&ndicapper '..as Mr '.', J.,-0* Evett. "V^hyas it necessary to go outside the colony fora handicapper while Mr. Evett is m it, is inexplicable; ; and I sincerely hope the. clubs will retain his services, as one who ; has been tried and proved, m preference : to^thbse of any other gentleman. It is no doubt yery desirable that onehandi-i; 'capper should be appointed for the whole but' there' is little need to get outside New Zealand when -we have^ gentleman here.whose ability and knowledge are very, great, and whose probity and impartiality are unquestionable. , :
