Manawatu Road Board.

The chairman of the Board and Warden Sly were all who put m an appearance at the usual monthly meeting of the Board . to have been held today. Consequently them being no quorum the meetin/ stands adjourned to this day week. ' The following is the pieces of correspondence received up to date: : T From the Colonial Secretary- acknow..lodging; receipt of election and informing Board same had been published in 'the Gazette. v ...... From Mr.J. H. Hankins, aoijcitor, acting for Messrs Williams and Foley, contractors, and. informing Board that hit clients 1 had placed the matter of deduction made by the Board from their contract money, viz., £14 for alleged nori completion of work within 'contract r time, and further stating that the contractors had given him to understand that they had requested the engineer to examine the work before the time was up anil that he had omitted to.do so, and alsothat the work was finishedvin time but n6t passed by the engineer. Public Works Department ire-application for £4000 under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act, and re poll for expenditure of £1550 on Longburn Road having been lost, informing Board that the amount would be deducted from proposed advance and written off unless anything to the contrary was heard from the Board before the 6th of July. From Public Works, Wanganui, re gravel pit Terrace End stating tliat the purchase of same had been approved of by the Railway Department at £375, the sum of £25 having been taken off the original Rum of £400 for gravel supplied to the Manawatu Company and which 'Jf had not been returned, ' - ' Telegram from Public Works Depart" ment acknowled«ring~receipt of applications for grants main and district roads and stating that it would take some time to see if same were m order. ;.-.
