St. Peter's Club Concert.

Cu-The .philanthropic promoters of the institution known as Sfc Peter's Club" are to bo congratulated on the 'most succeaa'ful results of the pub! ic entertainment given last night m the Foresters' Hall m aid^of the funds' of the Club. The Hall was well filled, we; are glad to say, and by an appreciative audience too; that is if we are to judge by the applause which greeted the several .items rendered during the evening;. .The recagnitibn of ability was at times rather deafening and tire some, but the critics at the. rear of the ■Hall were not to ba denied, and insisted in T their voiceferoua encores^ being responded to m a practical mariner. The opening piece of the programme was a piano duett by the Misses Skermari andLeary, "and the March from Tambour as plaj r ed by those ladies was an execution of more than ordinary skill, the difficult treble music being rendered by Miss Skerman m a finished and manterly style. Mr Watson, followed with the song "From the Alp 3," which he dalivered with hia accustomed -tyle and effect. ;-, Mrs Mar-riner-sang " A Summer Shower" prettily, and was'suo'ceeded by Mr Baker rendering; White .Squall." Mr Baker, was m. excellent _yoico; and sang, witn" good taste and expression. iThe^ next' item,' a character song by Mr L. Abrahams, entitled' "The Frenchman," was cleverly and effectively given, and received a well-merited encore. Mr Healy followed, "with " Didst thou but know," after which a duett was rendered by Mesdames Leigh and Hoe with their usual pleasing and stylish execution? A recitation' by Mr George Richardson, entitled " Edward Cooper" received a deafening applause tmd brought the .first part' of the programme to a close. Aiter a short interval the second part was opened with a pianoforte solo (selections from Martha), rendered, by Miss Boylan m her usual masterly and accomplished style. Mrs Watson came next with the song " When the Swallows," her rich contralto voice being heard to advantage. Mr Bickerton then sang "All that Glitters," and received an enthusiastic encore to which he responded with " The British Lion." A duett by Mesdames Marriner and Palmerson followed, the latter lady's voice being • heard to considerable eirect, (the name of the duett we were unfortunately unable to ascertain). Mr Healy sang u The Old Lock," and was followed by Messrs Abrahams and Baker singing the "Gendarmes," m character. This item was really as successful a one as any rendered during the evening and evoked considerable laughter amongst the audience. A well-merited encore was responded to with a selection from "The Pirates of Penzanco." Miss Leary gave " "Weber's last Waltz " with considerable taste but not with the I usual effect. A comic song \3j Mr Jolly m character was given m his customary ludicrous and amusing style and of course received an encore, MY Kendall sang 1 "The Wolf ".with good execution and oare, and was"succeoded by Mr McEenna successfully rendering a character song m a very amusing and laughable costume | i being dressed as '' an old maid aged 9i." Mr Mitchell singing a parody on ' " Come Birdis Gome " brought the entertainment to a close. The Be y. Mr Coningflr prpajded duripor the entertainment and Mr CJodfrey, th.c Secretary of the Club, was bijsy all the time seeing after the performers and ten- \ dering any help required. Most of- the accorapanyiiig . fell* to the lot of Miss k Boylan who generously gave her services whon-requSßtod at the last moment to take the place of. a iady who could not attend. The assistance rendered so spontaneously by nearly all sects at the enterttiinmeafc is a matter of congratulation, ami sluiwcl that m Palmoiston at loasfc unanimity exists when a good cause is to be assisted.
