Practising What be Preached.
The Hobart Mercury of May 20th says : — On Wednesday afternoon m Liverpool-street, a somewhat unusual accident was witnessed by a number of our townspeople whose business or pleasure called bheni out m that locality. An aye-witness describes the scene as follows : — " A minister of the Gospel who had recently arrived from Victoria and taken charge of one of our city churches, was observed m orthodox black suit, bell-topper, and" ' white choker,' actually carrying two logs of wooi, one on each shoulder, while at his side, with a blush of confusion on her face, trotted an old woman, to whom the wood belonged. It appears that the person had met the old lady with the logs, toiling towards her home m evident distress. Putting m practice what he preached of ' bearing one another's burdens,' he quickly relieved her of her load, and marched through the street with the wood, regardless of the looks of wonderment and . amusement with which he was greeted. The people who worship. at his church may congratulate themselves that they have evidently got the ' wnght ' man m the right place.
