As there" are now four clubs m the two counties, viz., those at Marton, Feildin<j, Palrneraton. and Foxton, it has been decided to compete for a tropy m the form of a cup- Thi first match of the serias of contests took place on Saturday last »t Foxton. The Palmerston team left by tha mid-day train, and was captained by Mr Seeker. . Play coromencad at a 40 p.m., there being two spells of 40 minutes each. The play dfthe Poxton team, generally speaking T?as. highly creditable. In the first spell neither side gained any advantage, but m the second, * try was obtained by Palmerston, tha /eßult of the day's play being one try : ; to: nil. Andrews, Gregson, and £5. Robinson, played well for Foxton, and Milton's play on the Palmerston side was much admired. The next match takes' place at Pfclmerston on the 4th July against the Marton Club, and players must *•- member to assemble, for practice next Saturday. The following dates are already fixed for Cup matches— June 27, Feildihg v. Marton, at Marton; July 4, Palmerston v. r M*rton, at Pahnerston ; July 11th, Feilding y. Foxton ; July 18, Palmerston y. Feilding, at Pahnerston.
