A. Thief's Disappointment.

A. great excitement was aroused m the neighbourhood of Clarenc.e-r etreet, Sydney, a weok or two ago, l»y v report tfaßt two skeletons had been found at the back of Petty's Hotel. /There was nothing to be excited about. Some children found a black box, and on opening it found it contained two skullu and human bones, wmpped m calico printed with Cliinese characters. There were some coins and playing cards m the box also. * The' police took charge of it, and later m the day it was claimed by a China man, who said the remains were those of two relatives of his, and lie had had them by him ten years. Fie had just got the box down from the country m order lo send i( to China, mid it was stolen on the night of its arrival. It was presumed the thief left the box m Petty 's yard to get rid of it, on finding that it contained bones and not bawbees. The Chinaman was greatly pleased on being informed thai the relics of his relatives were m the custody of the police, and he lost no time m obtaining them from the atitboritea.
