The members, have decided to ofter their .services on that footing. The Minister m his letter, expressed gratification at the public spirit which prompted the offer. DrrNRDiN, Monday, As a consequence of the proposed formation of a \y.\\i\ Fire Brigade, the present body haw tendered their resignations, to take effect m September. Not many of the members feel inclined to accept the terms offered by the City Council for a paid Fire Brigade. . At the meeting of the St. Kilda Lioensing Committee, the Chairman made a strong attack on the police . force about their report m regard to the drunkenness prevalent among women m the neighboring district of South Dunedin* He characterised the report as uncalled for, unmanly, and untrue. . Chrtstciiurch, Monday. The customs duties here begin to feel the effect of anticipated legislation, but more mildly than m other towns. On Friday the Christchurch .return leaped from an average daily amount of some four or five hundred pounds to £1237, and on Saturday the total revenue was £1002. •
